Barlow baseball bounces back with 13-5 win over Sandy
Barlow baseball bounced back from adversity — not just during a difficult inning on a tough road trip, but also by staving off a possible sweep from a conference rival. At No. 7 Sandy (15-4, 6-3 League), who had shut out the visiting Bruins in the first two meetings that week, Barlow could have let a home run counterpunch derail its upset bid. Pioneers junior catcher Johnathin Silvis went yard deep middle in the 3rd inning, spurring teammates junior Kobe Sparks and junior Max Green...
Madalynn Sagapouletele blossoming into one of the state's top batters after transfer to Gresham
Not until the start of volleyball practices back in the fall did Jim Gardenhire realize his softball team was poised to obtain an unexpected influx of offense come springtime. See, softball is a small enough community, said Gardenhire, that everyone state-wide knows who the power players are. The Gresham coach had seen Madalynn Sagapouletele during the club season, and knew exactly what his Gophers were getting in the sophomore transfer from The Dalles. ...

OPINION: Time is running out on federal funding of digital equity for all Oregonians
Oregon has a historic opportunity to expand access to affordable, reliable, high-speed internet to everyone in the state, no matter where they live or their circumstances. Access, however, depends on more than wires, poles and other pieces of infrastructure. It also depends on making sure that internet service is affordable, and that all Oregonians have the tools and the skills to use it. I’m proud to say that Oregon just...
The Ford Report: We Want to Forget BUT Please Don’t!
The CBS nightly news reminded us this past week, that it has been 25 years since the Columbine School Shooting. The news clip stated that there have been more than 400 school shootings since that time. So, a tear came to my eye this Sunday morning and my heart hurt as I read an email from my friend, Reena. In the information she sent she reminded us that it has been 10 years since our own local tragedy at Reynolds High School. While we would...

Love at 40: Hathaway, Galitzine get romantic in ‘The Idea of You’
There is something about a romantic comedy that uplifts the viewer like nothing else. Thankfully, as spring heats up and prepares to head into summer, Prime Video has a new rom-com to suit the seasonal mood. “The Idea of You,” premiering Thursday, May 2, on Prime, puts just enough of a...

Kia EV9 is a great SUV, if you can afford it
The price of electric vehicles is a huge sticking point with many consumers. At this time, the cost of batteries required to deliver the driving range that consumers demand is placing substantial upward pressure on prices. Automakers cannot afford to take a loss on every EV they sell, so the costs are passed on to the consumer. Part of the cost equation is that Americans love their big SUVs, and with good reason. We like to be able to carry people and cargo, and maybe...
‘Food Foray’ docuseries explores global dishes in our own backyard
In the Republic of Georgia, in Eastern Europe, there is a phrase: supra. Literally it means to feast, an important part of Georgian culture. But the underlying vibes are the idea of sharing time, life, and connections with loved ones. It places equal importance on not just the delicious food, but the people you share it with. That idea is the backbone of a new show debuting out of MetroEast...

We worked seven days a week, rain or shine, until we could afford to hire employees. We purchased our supplies from local companies, banked at a local bank, and planned for the future. Never...
