In the Mood with The Capitol: Movies, Music, and More Feel-Good-February Moments!
Making sure we provide a wide variety of free, high-quality movies on a regular basis has been a goal of ours since the library began managing the Capitol in 2021. Looking at statistics after systematically targeting film lovers of all types and ages, it’s apparent our goal is paying off! While family movies in the summer have been a huge draw for several years, we have more recently seen a significant increase in attendance for other types of films, as well. Comparing 2024 to 2025, we have almost doubled the number of movies on the schedule, plus we have seen average attendance grow by 24%! Last year, 161 free movies were shown, and the number of attendees for all shows exceeded 13,000. Having folks experience movies in the same theater as existed in the early 1920s is an amazing historic experience, one we hope to continue many years into the future!

A look at Hopkinsville's baking legacy with reporter Amanda Hancock
Kentuckians are keen on being proud of areas in which we excel. That goes for a few obvious things, like bourbon, horse racing and college basketball. But, who's sporting T-shirts about a small Kentucky town's status as a top flour producer? In Hopkinsville, years of work on wheat fields and the daily grind at flour mills mix together to make well-known products that reach kitchen tables across the country, such as Ghirardelli brownie mixes and biscuits with the Red Lobster and Cracker Barrel branding. If you see one of these items at your local grocery store, you may be proud knowing it came from this state. For this week's Blueprint cover story, I dug into the ingredients, from farm to factory, that make Hopkinsville the Batter Capital of the World. How did this story start? Sometimes, a story sparks from a unexceptional place, like your email inbox. I first heard about Hopkinsville's title as the Batter Capital of the World while scrolling near the end of one of Frazier Kentucky History Museum's newsletters, dubbed "Frazier Weekly." As part of the museum's 120: Cool KY Counties exhibit , the newsletter featured this unforgettable quip: "Did you know every McDonald’s biscuit made
