Many say imitation is the best form of flattery. If that’s the case, a bus load of Main Street professionals are on the way to learn how local leaders and volunteers led efforts to revitalize downtown Wetumpka. Main Street America is coming to town as part of its national conference in Birmingham next month.
Hall of Pride inductee never let obstacles stop her
J-O-A-N It is how you spell determination for anyone who knows Joan O’Daniel. O’Daniel wasn’t given much of a chance but her grit, determination and belief in God was all she needed. O’Daniel wasn’t expected to live long after birth. She beat the odds as she was successful in school and became a librarian, inspiring others as she overcame challenge after challenge. Her biography was all that was needed for her to be selected as one of the Tallassee High School Alumni Association Hall of Pride Class of 2024 Inductees.
Two Publix set to open mid-summer in Elmore County
New grocery store options for residents of Millbrook and Wetumpka are scheduled to open soon. Both stores started construction about the same time. Charlie Trotman with The Trotman Company announced Publix coming to U.S. 231 South in Wetumpka around Christmas in 2022. Millbrook officials joined Publix officials for a groundbreaking ceremony in August 2023 in western Elmore County.
Tallassee woman arrested for trafficking fentanyl
A traffic stop for law enforcement turned into a drug seizure and arrest in Tallassee. During the stop, 6 grams of fentanyl, 1 gram of crack cocaine and 14 grams of marijuana was taken off the streets. Daphne Stokes, 48, of Tallassee was at the wheel of a Mazda Tribute when Alabama Drug Task Force officers noticed Stokes failed to signal on Gilmer Avenue in Tallassee.

Woman dies after Wednesday morning I-85 crash
MACON COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - A Georgia woman is dead following a morning crash on Interstate 85. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers responded to reports of a crash near mile marker 34, about two miles north of Franklin, around 5:30 a.m. Authorities say the car left the road, then hit a ditch and several trees before flipping over.
