Yamhill County Fair names its ambassadors
A quartet of young women has been chosen to represent the Yamhill County Fair & Rodeo for the next 12 months. Emma Matthiesen, Madison Gregor, Chloe Bingman and Anna Baumholtz were chosen by the organization’s board of directors from a pool of Yamhill County high school students. Each was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a college or university of their choice as part of their appointment. Philomath High School graduates Grace Bennett, Brooke Clemens and Mikaila Saathoff earned dean’s list honors at Linfield University for the spring semester. There are three new members on the Newberg-Dundee school board, and they appear decidedly younger than the elected directors of the school district’s leading body. Newberg High School students Sienna Hansen, Oliver Kolbet and Katelyn Nummelin were selected to become student representatives on the board in mid-June. Affordable missing middle housing debuts in the 2024 Street of Dreams in August with a duplex, a triplex, and a cottage cluster in Portland. Such housing, which used to be common, largely disappeared when many cities adopted zoning policies that favored single-family neighborhoods. Newberg volleyball announces middle school and high school camps
Newberg volleyball has announced the dates of two camps the Tigers are hosting this summer ahead of the fall season. The middle school and high school camps will run Aug. 12-15 at Newberg High School, just a few days before the high school season's first practice date on Aug. 19. The middle school camp will be from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m., while the high school camp directly follows from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The camp fees are $40 for middle schoolers and $60 for high schoolers. All camp fees will be redirected into the program's funds. Participants will receive a camp shirt. Payment can be made via cash or check made out to NHS Volleyball on the first day of camp. Greenburg Road on-ramp to northbound Highway 217 to close for a week
Starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 29, the Greenburg Road on-ramp to northbound OR 217 will close for a week until 5 a.m., Monday, Aug. 5. During this closure, Oregon Department of Transportation crews will reconfigure the ramp to ensure it connects to the new, future auxiliary lane. The auxiliary lane is expected to reduce congestion when it opens in 2025 by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. The suggested detour route is to take the Greenburg Road on-ramp to head southbound on OR 217 and use the OR 99W interchange to return to northbound OR 217. Oregon continues to pump $130,000 a month to an out-of-state nonprofit to run a Measure 110 hotline that barely rings. So far this year, the hotline has received just 73 calls from people with Measure 110 citations, translating into about $10,700 per call, the latest data from the Oregon Health Authority shows.
