911 calls in Knox County now being answered by KRCC staff after eight months
ROCKLAND – Knox Regional Communications Center returned to a fully independent emergency telecommunications operation on May 1, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m. For eight and a half months, Waldo County fielded the KRCC’s 911 calls, transferring information electronically to the staff in Rockland, 24/7, while Knox County administrators scrambled to repopulate a severally dwindled dispatch employee roster. With a recent rebound in filled positions, and a final sign off by authorizing agencies, KRCC is back to fulfilling all aspects of the job. The contract with Waldo County still has 28 days left, which will act as a bit of a cushion in case something goes “glitchy” with the electronics, according to Gordon Page, Interim Knox County Administrator.

A Former Yacht Club in Blue Hill Gets New Life as a Family Residence
It was three in the morning when Matt Herrington first saw the building that would become his family’s Maine home. From the pictures online, he could tell the coastal structure was in bad shape, but he could also see its immense potential. “It was unlike any other listing,” he recalls. “It was an American ruin. There was no water, no electricity, and the floors weren’t connected.” And yet the old yacht club was clearly “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” He ran upstairs and woke up his wife, Shannon Hart Herrington. “We’re flying to Bangor on Saturday,” he said.

ROCKPORT, Maine — It may not be the Cow Palace in San Francisco, but at Aldermere Farm in Rockport, the new barn for their famous cows is a bit palatial. The new barn stretches well over 100 feet long, with large pens that let air and light in, while the high roof keeps the weather out. It’s a far cry from the series of small barns and outdoor pens the farm used for decades.
