(The Center Square) – In response to a motion filed by the lawyers of state Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, calling for the dismissal of her charges related to an alleged kickback scheme siphoning taxpayer funds directed to nonprofits in her district employing her daughter, alongside improper use of campaign funds, government lawyers say the charges should stand. In their 29-page response, the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois argued lawyers misinterpreted her charges and made an argument that doesn't disprove portions of what they say was still illegal conduct. SPRINGFIELD — Gov. JB Pritzker appealed the Trump administration's decision to deny Illinois' request for federal disaster relief on Thursday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied Illinois' request last month without explanation for federal resources to respond to August storms. In an appeal submitted to the agency, the state provided updated damage numbers showing the storm cost eligible for public assistance is now $43 million — up from $27.6 million in the original request and well above FEMA's $24.9 million standard.

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Voters in Sangamon County have weighed in landslide support of a nonbinding vote to create a register of rental landlords and a base requirement for all rent units in the city of Springfield. Results from the Sangamon County Clerk's office show 69.7% voted in favor of a registry of the overall 41,740 votes cast in a landslide victory for housing rights advocacy groups in Springfield. The newly-elected Dems are Daniel Biss, La Shawn Ford, Patty Garcia, Donna Miller and Melissa Bean, who returns to Congress after previously holding the Eighth District House seat from 2005 to 2011. Reelected U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski said in a social media post on Wednesday that Democrats are ready to end the tariff taxes driving up grocery bills, reversing the Medicaid cuts that hurt working people and extending the ACA tax credits. The Flash Index is the weighted average of Illinois growth rates in corporate earnings, consumer spending and personal income as estimated from receipts for corporate income, individual income and retail sales taxes.
