Woodmore football eliminated in second round of OHSAA postseason
Woodmore played the first postseason home game in program history. Visiting Delta, however, spoiled the mood with a 28-0 victory over the Wildcats in Division VI. Woodmore had the ball for only eight possessions, including one with 16 seconds left in the first half. The Wildcats struggled to move the ball, while Delta capped two long drives from the 1 in the first half. Delta added two scores within a 1 minute span in the second half, including a touchdown on defense with an interception. High school cross country girls Lily Kiser runs with Ross history in her heart Coach Scott Stecher knew Woodmore would have to capitalize when it had the ball. "Being old school, time of possession is huge," he said. "We ran six plays in the first half. That hurt. Scoring first didn't concern us. We've been there. We had opportunities, to score and make it a game at the end of the first half and coming out with the ball to start the second half. "We didn't cash in." Woodmore earned a first-round bye after winning 10 games in the regular season for the second time in program history. It finished first in the Sandusky Bay

Deputy fire chief placed on paid leave after harassment complaint
A high-ranking Toledo Fire & Rescue Department officer is on paid leave after being accused of sexually harassing behavior. Deputy Chief Danny Brown-Martinez is the subject of an ongoing internal investigation and is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome, said Sheldon Collins, a department spokesman. “Consistent with departmental policy and the collective bargaining agreement, the department will not comment on the specific allegations, circumstances, or details of an ongoing internal investigation,” Mr. Collins said. City spokesman Amy Voigt had no further comment Friday about the disciplinary proceedings. Peter Pattakos, lawyer for Chief Brown-Martinez, said the allegations arose while his client was on medical leave and involve an accuser with an incentive to lie about him. “This involves a public servant with nearly 30 years of exemplary service and no prior disciplinary history,” Mr. Pattakos said. “...There are substantial concerns about how this matter has been handled and whether he has been afforded due process and a fair opportunity to respond.” The attorney said he expects Chief Brown-Martinez to ultimately be vindicated of any wrongdoing.

Hilliard Darby football upsets Whitmer on the road in Division I regionals
As the No. 1 seed in the Division I, Region 2 playoffs, Whitmer football used a familiar formula to build up a 9-1 regular-season record: dominate the run game. The very formula, which made Whitmer so difficult to beat, was used instead against the Panthers in the second round of the Division I playoffs as they fell 24-21 to No. 8 seed Hilliard Darby on Friday. “Running the style of offense they run in that Wing-T, it’s something we’re not used to seeing defensively,” Whitmer head coach Justin Keller said. “In order to be a successful Wing-T team, you have to be able to have multiple guys carry the ball, and they did that very effectively tonight.” The Hilliard Darby Panthers (8-4) dominated time of possession, especially in the second half, and had two running backs in seniors Kohen Kornegay and Braylon Griffith combine for 163 yards and a touchdown. The game-defining drive came in the fourth quarter when Darby, who was trailing 14-10 at the time, held possession for more than eight minutes and capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown on fourth down from Kornegay at the 2:26 mark. Keller said he could only watch from the
