Did a Charlotte nightclub really charge $6 for a to-go box? Here's what we know

A to-go box fee listed on a Charlotte nightclub receipt has sparked a viral debate about how much is too much to pay for a meal out. An Instagram user who goes by the name Her Soles reposted a photo of a receipt from STATS Charlotte , which included a $28 dollar charge for Cajun chicken alfredo – and a $6 charge for a to-go box. It also included $1.02 service fee and 15% gratuity, bringing the total bill to $43.27. “$43 for some Alfredo by itself?????” the caption reads. “$12.12 extra for gratuity, a to-go box and a service fee is crazy! I would have told them to keep it. I’ll eat somewhere else.” More than 700 people responded — and many agreed with the original poster — with several commenters saying they would have left the club rather than paying the fees. “$6 for a to-go box is criminal,” Ashley Boulos commented. “Imma stuff the alfredo in my pocket just to prove a point.” “The way I would’ve walked out with the plate and silverware, the glass too,” a user named Nelle wrote. But not everyone sided with the majority. “OK, I hear y’all but STATS food is

Who is Ken McCool? What to know about Democrat who ousted NC Rep. Tricia Cotham

Southeast Mecklenburg County’s state House District 105 will soon be represented by a new face. Democrat Ken McCool ousted Republican incumbent Tricia Cotham on Tuesday, with unofficial results from the State Board of Elections showing him up by a margin of 57.1% to 42.9%. Cotham narrowly survived her reelection campaign in 2024 against a well-funded Democratic challenger after switching political parties in 2023. But McCool, with a significant money advantage and the political winds at his back, prevailed in flipping the seat this year. Tuesday’s sizable win for McCool was part of a bigger “blue wave” that flipped state and federal seats across North Carolina and the country. “I know that with this victory comes an enormous responsibility, and I do not take that lightly. The trust you have placed in me is something I intend to earn every single day. I didn’t run for this office because I wanted a title. I ran because I love this community, I believe in the people who call it home, and I know we can do better when we put people ahead of politics.,” McCool wrote on social media about his win. Here are five things to know about McCool as he

Four Democrats flipped GOP seats in Charlotte's suburban counties. Who are they?

Voters sent a message to President Donald Trump’s Republican Party Tuesday as candidates up and down the ballot rode a blue wave to victory. The North Carolina General Assembly was no exception. Democrats shattered the GOP’s iron grip on the state Senate, breaking its supermajority and appearing to fall just short of an even split that would have given the Democratic lieutenant governor tiebreaking power. The party meanwhile flipped the NC House after 16 years. Republican state Rep. Tricia Cotham was one of the evening’s political casualties, losing to former Matthews town commissioner Ken McCool by a double-digit margin. But voters expected she could be in danger heading into Election Day. Results in nearby Republican-leaning districts came as more of a surprise. These are four of the newest Democratic leaders heading to Raleigh after flipping seats in Charlotte’s suburban counties. Chris Bishopp Retired Navy veteran Chris Bishopp defeated Republican incumbent Brian Echevarria by a margin of 56% to 44% in Cabarrus County, according to election night results. He’ll represent House District 82, which includes suburban and rural areas surrounding Concord. Bishopp studied political science at UNC Chapel Hill on a Navy ROTC scholarship and served as an active duty naval

Charlotte Is Weighing a Ban on Towing Cars With People Inside, but North Carolina Law Won’t Let It Touch What Towers Charge

Charlotte City Council’s Safety Committee is looking at changes to the city’s private-property towing rules, a topic it took up at its October and November meetings. Two proposals stand out: banning the towing of vehicles with people inside them, and requiring a property owner’s written authorization for every tow, at any hour. Both are reasonable. Neither touches the bill, though, because North Carolina law doesn’t let cities set tow prices.
