Two Christmas Gift Wrapping Fundraisers Happening in Knoxville
Two Christmas gift wrapping fundraisers are happening in Knoxville over the next two weeks. The first fundraiser will be put on by the Knoxville Blues Volleyball Club on Saturday from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Peace Tree Taproom. The volleyball club will provide the wrapping and the volleyball ladies will wrap all of your gifts for a free will donation. One Dollar from every beverage sold during the event will also go toward the volleyball team. Blues Volleyball is the club program that gives opportunities for development for current and future Panther volleyball players.
New Sculpture Added to Wonder Spelen
A new sculpture was added to the Wonder Spelen playground in Pella on Thursday. Designed by The Randolph Rose Collection, the “Arbor Children” sculpture is described by the Wonder Spelen group as “playful and fun” with appreciation for nature and friendship. This lost-wax bronze statue features a boy and girl lifting a floral arbor, which may remind visitors of children jumping rope. Carefully selected in partnership with the Wonder Spelen Board and the City of Pella, this sculpture was donated to the playground by the Pella Garden Club. Severe Drought Expands Locally in Latest Update
A worsening drought is spreading across south central Iowa. The latest national report shows most of Marion County is in severe drought or worse, with those conditions expanding to Pella and most of the northern part of the county. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the latest round of dry conditions was a result of the fourth driest November on record, coupled with several prior months without major rain events.

Pella TV Working on Documentary of Community’s History
When the programming coordinator for Pella Fiber joined the staff, he soon found a purpose to try and document the community’s unique history. Monte Goodyk has been working with local historians and organizations to put together a definitive look back at the journey of the Tulip City through a multi-episode project for PellaTV, the City of Pella’s local television product. Goodyk has worked to dig deep on several aspects of the rich backstory of Pella, with the help of experts Ronald Rietveld and Bruce Boertje, as well as several others in the community. Goodyk says he’s seeking assistance for the effort, and has already received backing from the Marion County Community Foundation, especially as it relates to storing and preserving vast amounts of digital images and video generated by the project.

Crossroads of Pella Continuing Christmas Assistance Programs
Crossroads of Pella is continuing to work to help the community during the holiday season. The non-profit organization on the third floor of the Pella Community Center has a wide range of winter wear available as colder weather approaches. Additionally, Associate Director Chris Allen says they are continuing their toy shelf and adopt-a-family programs for families in need of Christmas cheer. The HIRTA Helps volunteer program is looking for volunteers to transport individuals to the Merry-N County Christmas light display in Knoxville. HIRTA Helps is a volunteer program that encompasses the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Marion County to ensure community members are able to access their essential medical care. HIRTA Helps is now looking for volunteers for their holiday lights express in Knoxville. Volunteers pick up individuals that may not be able to drive from their home and take them through the holiday lights display at Marion County Park. Volunteer opportunities are available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6:00-8:00 pm during the Merry-N County Christmas light display.
