Chicago Sky's Stern Three-Word Message for Bill Simmons About WNBA Proposal

    By Alek Arend,

On Bill Simmons' most recent podcast episode, he discussed ways to better promote the WNBA. The additions of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese certainly help the league, but is there more work to be done?

Simmons proposed the idea of making WNBA teams adopt the same team name as the NBA franchise they share a city with. So, for example, the Indiana Fever would be known as something like the "Indiana Lady Pacers." He thinks it'll help combine the WNBA and NBA into one entity and give the WNBA better exposure.

"Use the same team names. Why force people to learn about the Fever? Why not just have the W-Pacers? I think it just makes it so much easier," said Simmons' podcast guest, Ethan Strauss.

"Like how in college they have the Lady Gamecocks," Simmons replied.

The Chicago Sky issued a direct response to Bill Simmons' proposal for WNBA team names.

If adopted, the Chicago Sky would now be known as the "Chicago Lady Bulls." Yikes.

The Chicago Sky, who took Reese with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, issued a direct three-word message to Simmons and Strauss in response to their proposal.

"How about….no," the Sky told Simmons on X.

The WNBA needs to keep its originality at all costs. If they give it up, the league will be the NBA's shadow for years to come.
