Lewis County resident questions nuclear company over jobs, land and what comes next

VANCEBURG, Ky. — Lewis County residents are getting their first chance to question The Nuclear Company, which wants to build a nuclear power site in the county. The Lewis County Chamber of Commerce met with a company representative on Oct. 29 at a pizza shop in Vanceburg to discuss the proposed project, called Prosperity One. The company says that if approved, the site could host up to six reactors and generate 6.6 gigawatts of electricity.

Ross, Pike County data centers differ greatly in size, power and water use

CHILLICOTHE— Data centers, data centers, data centers. Between the proposed data center in Chillicothe and the data center being built in Pike County it can feel like all anyone is talking about is data centers. That doesn't even begin to include all the conversations about the other data centers being built and either supported or protested by communities around the country. With so much talk, it is easy to get confused, especially when you are talking about two sites so close together, like the ones in Ross and Pike counties, which are less than 40 miles apart. Both of these projects involve turning brownfield sites into data centers, but that is largely where the similarities stop. Based on what project leaders from both sites have said, the centers will vastly vary in size, energy and water usage and more. Ross County The proposed data center in Chillicothe would be built on the former paper mill site, which is owned by U.S. Paper Mill, which is leasing the land to Alignment Engine. 3CDC completes $5.1M purchase of former church campus in Over-the-Rhine

3CDC has completed its $5.1 million purchase of the former St. Francis Seraph Church campus in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The acquisition, finalized October 20, includes seven parcels previously owned by the Franciscan Friars of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The purchase follows a city partnership intended to preserve services at the St. Anthony Center while Cincinnati develops its proposed Center of Care initiative. Specific redevelopment plans for the historic church property have not yet been announced.

Aeronca: The Journey of America’s Pioneer in Commercial General Aviation

The Aeronautical Corporation of America, originally formed as Cincinnati Aeronautical Corporation, was founded on November 11, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is often shortened to Aeronca and became the first American company to produce a commercially successful general aviation aircraft. In 1941, the company officially changed its name to Aeronca Aircraft Corporation. The company began production in 1929 with the Aeronca C-2 monoplane, known as the “Flying Bathtub.” The “C” in its name stands for Cincinnati. In 1937, the company introduced the Scout, a two-seater model. The Scout evolved into the Chief and Super Chief the following year. In 1937, the Ohio River flood washed away the entire Lunken Airport area, destroying Aeronca’s factory, tooling, and nearly all early blueprints and drawings. Because of this, the company moved out of the floodplain in 1939 to Hook Field Municipal Airport in Middletown, Ohio. By October 1940, the factory had to expand by 25,000 square feet to meet production needs.

The vote wasn't close. In Trenton, Ohio, a ballot measure capping data center capacity at 25 megawatts passed with nearly 80 percent of the vote Tuesday. Eighteen other Ohio municipalities posted similar results, and the rejection spread nationwide: voters in at least 29 jurisdictions passed bans or restrictions on data centers, The Washington Post reported, while the Data Centers on the Ballot tracker counted 37 restrictive measures passed and six more leading as of Wednesday morning. Only one — in Harwood, North Dakota — was voted down.
