Massena woman arrested for series of vehicle thefts in Cayuga County
A Massena woman was arrested for stealing multiple vehicles in Cayuga County Wednesday. On February 29, deputies with the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office responded to Lake Road in the Town of Genoa for a car in a ditch. Deputies quickly learned the vehicle was stolen out of the Town of Mentz. Witnesses report they saw a woman flee the scene shortly after crashing. While continuing the investigation, deputies were notified a homeowner just north of their location on Lake Road reported their home was broken into and their car was stolen.

Freeville Man Arrested For DWI After Hit-and-Run in Moravia
Around 12:45 in the afternoon on Saturday, July 20th, both a deputy with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and a New York State Trooper were called to the area of Main Street within the Village of Moravia for a hit-and-run accident that had occurred. Witnesses to the accident told police a vehicle had gone off the roadway and struck a mailbox.

Another blast of hot weather in Central NY could bring a historic heat wave
Syracuse, N.Y. -- A blast of hot air will hit Central New York this weekend, bringing the chance of a historic heat wave. Sunday and Monday are expected to be in the low 90s in Syracuse, according to the National Weather Service. If Tuesday also reaches 90 -- the forecast is 89 -- that would be Syracuse’s fifth heat wave of the summer.
Report: New York needs $29M to upgrade aging state bridges
(The Center Square) — New York needs to spend tens of millions of dollars to bring its aging bridges into a state of good condition, according to the state's top fiscal watchdog, calling for more funding for the upgrades. US authorities announced Friday the return of another artwork stolen by Nazis to the family of Fritz Grunbaum, the Austiran-Jewish cabaret performer and collector who originally owned it. The drawing, by Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele, was returned at a ceremony Friday by another Austrian-Jewish family, who purchased the piece without knowing that it had been stolen.
New York Provides Free Overdose Emergency Kits to Domestic Violence Shelters
Domestic violence shelters and service providers across New York State now have access to free Overdose Emergency Kits. This initiative is a partnership between the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), and the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). The kits are provided through Project COPE (Community Overdose Prevention Education), funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
