Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich proposes his last and largest city budget

(This story has been updated to add new information.) Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich has proposed his last city budget, suggesting a $149.6 million fund for expenses in 2027. It would be the city’s largest budget to date to cover the growing costs of public services that have worried officials about their reliance on property taxes. The proposal would grow the city’s overall spending by about 4% from 2026, a faster rate of change than 2025-2026 and slower than the years immediately following the city’s revaluation done in 2022. Property taxes would rise modestly. Genrich posed a tax rate of $8.62 for every $1,000 of assessed property value, a 3% rise from 2026. For a property estimated at $250,000, the owner would pay $2,155 in taxes for city services, or about $62 more than 2026, not including other tax bill items, like county, school district and technical college taxes unaffected by the city’s budget. In all, the city would collect $75.6 million in levied property taxes, including tax increment districts. This would be about 3.6% greater than the $72.9 million levied in 2026.
