Through the Years, July 22
40 YEARS AGO — THEY WOULDN'T FRY — Thinking about cooking an egg on the sidewalk in current hot temperatures, you would naturally turn to an expert. But, even the efforts of Mickey Belosi, right, extension home economist, couldn't make a couple of eggs fry on a black parking lot Monday. Helping was Kelly Horner, secretary at the Barry County Extension Office. With temperatures bouncing between 101° and 104° at the time, the hen fruit still wouldn't cook. So, we can tell you for certain, even though it's hot, record hot, the sidewalks won't cook an egg. Temperatures the last few days, ranging from 101° to 104°, have been setting record highs for this period of the year. They have also been drying out pastures which haven't been blessed with general showers in several weeks. Cassville Democrat file photo.
