Identity of man in fatal crash released
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark on Thursday released the name of the man who died in a fiery Tuesday afternoon accident. It happened at about 4:00 in extreme northwest Jasper County in the Rockland Community. The man has been identified as Matthew Everett Carr, 34, of Woodville.
Newton County gets $13M grant for Expo Center
NEWTON, Texas — Newton County has been awarded a $13 million grant by the state. The grant will go towards a brand new Expo Center located right off Highway 87. County leaders applied for the grant back in 2018. And last month, the Texas General Land Office Commissioner Dawn Buckingham visited Newton County Leaders and gave Newton County Judge Ronny Cochran a check in the amount of $13,627.000.00.
Newton County working to finalize agreement with Beauregard Parish to help inmate overflow issue
NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — The Newton County Sheriff's Office is working to finalize an agreement that would help the overflow of inmates at their jail. On Dec. 5, 2023, Sheriff Robert Burby submitted a proposed inter-local agreement to be entered between Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office and Newton County to house overflow of jail inmates, according to a news release from Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby.
