Pursuit Suspect Flees on Foot in Jasper County
Jasper County, Tx - The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says a Tuesday afternoon pursuit involving a motorcycle ended with a crash and then the suspect fleeing on foot. According to Deputy Chris Wade, he was responding to a report of a motorcycle being abandoned in the woods at the intersection of Highway 96 and County Road 317, about 9 miles south of Jasper.

Winds breaks power lines and sparks fires
High winds, snapping power lines and dry conditions resulted in two fires at almost the same time in the north end of Jasper County on Tuesday afternoon. The volunteers of both the Jasper and Lake Rayburn Fire Departments along with workers from the Texas Forest Service were dispatched to grass and wood fires at two locations just off of Highway 96 and south of Recreational Road 255 shortly before 1:00, when it was reported that fallen power lines had sparked grass and woods fires.

Area fire departments have been busy dealing with wildfires over the last few days, and on Tuesday the Lake Rayburn Fire Department battled three within four hours. During the noon hour, Lake Rayburn firefighters responded to County Road 207 near Mill Creek Baptist Church when it was reported that a downed power line resulted in a woods fire. It was discovered and reported by a crew from Jasper-Newton Electric Co-Op.
