DA preparing to take man to trial accused of choking a woman
Jasper County District Attorney Anne Pickle and her staff are preparing to take a man to trial who is accused of choking a woman, and also charged with a drug crime. According to Pickle, 50-year-old Anthony Raydell Mason, of Kirbyville, is currently under grand jury indictment on a March of 2022 3rd degree felony charge of Assault-Family Violence by Impeding Breathing or Circulation. Mason is accused of choking Brandi Boyd.

Jasper Head Coach Kendrick Crumedy and Newton ISD Superintendent Michelle Barrow say it’s because of the Sunday, April 23rd mass shooting in which several Newton teenagers are accused of being involved in the shooting that injured eleven Jasper teenagers.
Boy hailed as hero after saving drowning child's life in Lake Sam Rayburn
A boy is being hailed as a hero after he saved the life of another child who was drowning in Lake Sam Rayburn over the Memorial Day weekend. The staff of Jackson Hill Marina in the Broaddus area say that 11-year-old Hunter Mundy was swimming with an inflatable shark when he heard the other child calling out for help. Staff members say several people were on shore and witnessed the child in trouble, but only Mundy was close enough to help.
Woman rescued from vehicle after it plunged into a creek
A woman had to be rescued from her vehicle after it plunged into a creek. The incident occurred shortly before 9:00 Saturday evening in Sabine County. Daily News & More is reporting that emergency responders were sent to Farm to Market Road 1, also known as Bronson Road, about a mile south of Highway 103, and found the vehicle partially submerged in the water.

Woodville man involved in a Sunday evening rollover crash
A man from Tyler County was involved in a Sunday evening rollover crash here in Jasper. It happened shortly after 5:00 at the intersection of Highways 190 and 63 West. Police say Markeze Riley, 29 of Woodville was driving a late model Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Highway 190. Firefighters said Riley told them that he fell asleep at the wheel causing the car went off the south side of the highway and flipped upside-down.
NSU hosts summer STEAM camp for Sabine students
Northwestern State University hosted junior high and high schoolers from Sabine Parish for a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) day camp May 22-25. “This year, our junior high school campers were immersed in STEAM education and career exploration,” said Steve Gruesbeck, NSU’s director of service-learning and La GEAR UP. “Each morning they studied one ACT subject area with School of Education faculty. After a networking lunch with college faculty, they explored academic disciplines and careers in journalism, art, computer information systems and nursing and allied health.”

The Six Mile Volunteer Fire Department in Sabine County is thanking a local businessman who recently assisted the department. According to the department, Eddie Marshall, who is the owner and operator of Elite Welding & Fabrication Solutions on Market Street in Hemphill, donated the time and materials needed to install a receiver hitch on the back of the department’s brush truck.
