NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A woman was beaten on a Brooklyn train after she intervened in assault on another woman on Sunday, authorities said.

According to police, at around 7:25 a.m., the 39-year-old woman witnessed a 32-year-old woman allegedly being attacked by Michael Cosland, 68, while on a Q train near the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station in Coney Island.

When the woman and one other passenger intervened, Cosland allegedly turned on her, punching her on her right shoulder multiple times, and three times in the stomach, officials said.

Cosland fled the station and police tracked him down and took him into custody.

Both women refused medical attention at the scene.

Cosland was charged with misdemeanor assault, attempted arson, harassment and disorderly conduct.
