Simpson University Gets Second Consecutive Win at MLF College Fishing Tournament on the California Delta
– Simpson University angler James Hawkinson of Granite Bay, California, won the MLF Abu Garcia College Fishing Presented by YETI event on the California Delta presented by Tackle Warehouse Saturday with a five-bass limit weighing 13 pounds, 2 ounces. The victory earned the Redhawks’ bass club $2,000 and a qualification into the 2025 MLF College Fishing National Championship.

Four Placer High School juniors will be delegates to the American Legion-sponsored California Boys State and Girls State to be held at the California State Fairgrounds and UC Davis. Standing behind Janet Collins are Wayne Smoot, Ed Brackenbury and Charles Stanton, who will represent the Loomis, Auburn and Colfax posts. These outstanding students were chosen on the basis of scholarship, citizenship and leadership qualities to participate in a project designed to teach practical civics. Fire crews have busy start to the weekend
El Dorado County fire crews have stayed busy over the last couple days, according to the EDC Fire Protection District’s social media page. At 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, firefighters responded to an outbuilding and several vehicles on fire near a home off Mistywood Lane in Shingle Springs. EDCFPD Division 8101, Division 7705, Engine 28, Engine 25 and Medic 28 responded. Crews were assisted by Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit Engine 2781, Engine 2782, and Cameron Park Engine 88 and Engine 89; Diamond Springs El Dorado Fire Protection District Engine 349, El Dorado Hills Fire Department Engine 86, and Rescue Fire Department Engine 383. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
