NY state grant helps Waverly business Soprano's Market get facelift
Soprano's Market, a popular Waverly business that's been around more than 50 years, is the latest beneficiary of a state grant designed to help revitalize the downtowns of local communities. The Village of Waverly was awarded $4.5 million through the NY Forward program, a companion project to the Downtown Revitalization Initiative that has provided millions of dollars to the City of Elmira and other Southern Tier communities. The $727,000 renovation project at Soprano's Market was supported by $420,000 from Waverly's NY Forward grant. Improvements included a new outdoor patio, upgraded site lighting, new energy-efficient siding and insulation, complete roof replacement, and the rehabilitation of the parking lot. "For over 50 years, our family has poured its heart into serving the Waverly community, offering everything from our daily deli and pizzeria favorites to our bakery and catering services," said Soprano's Market owner Margaret Soprano, who thanked Gov. Kathy Hochul, Empire State Development, the Department of State and local leaders for the support. "Soprano’s Market is entering an exciting new chapter," she said. "These vital investments ensure that our family-owned business can continue bringing people together for generations to come."
