Caribou Community School Holds Second Annual Hall of Hometown Heroes
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -Caribou’s second annual Hall of Hometown Heroes was Thursday night. Eleven people were honored for giving back to their community. The Hall of Hometown Heroes at Caribou Community School aims to inspire students as they walk the halls. Each inductee’s picture is hung and has a QR code with each of their personal advice for students.
Caribou woman pleads guilty to manslaughter, is committed
CARIBOU (WGME) -- A Caribou woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of the man she was living with. Susan Kochanowski was arrested and charged in March 2023 after the man she lived with, 30-year-old Jason Donahue, was found dead and 21 residents of the Water Street apartments in Caribou were displaced after a fire destroyed the building.
Sunshine Expected to Start, Showers Return by Early Afternoon
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Good morning everyone and happy Friday! After a humid start to the daytime yesterday, a few spots picked up on some showers and storms associated with some sunshine in the early afternoon and a backdoor cold front. Because they were more isolated to scattered in nature, rainfall totals did vary within the last 24 hours. Areas in southern Aroostook like Houlton only saw around a tenth of an inch of rain overall while places like Caribou saw right around a half inch.
Houlton is “on the cusp of something amazing,” according to new town manager
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The Town of Houlton has a new town manager, Jeremy Smith, who recently moved to Aroostook County from northern New Mexico. “I’ve definitely been interested in relocating to northern Maine specifically for a few years now, looking at job opportunities in municipal government,” Smith told WAGM. “That’s my background, my immediate background - economic development programming is at the core of what I do.”

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - One blanket can offer a lot of comfort to a person for a long time. But 10 years worth of Homemade blankets can offer much comfort to many throughout the county. The Holy Rosary Blanket Ministry made it their mission to spread that comfort to as many folks as possible by making and donating fleece Blankets to anyone in need. And they have been doing so for the past decade. Ruth Gahagan founded the group back in 2014.
RSU39 Discusses Next Year's Budget with Residents
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -RSU 39′s budget meeting took place on Wednesday night, discussing potential cuts and what effects these cuts may have on the school district. The budget meeting on May 22nd went over the district’s budget for 2025 and took place at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. Many residents and school faculty members showed up to discuss potential cuts to teaching positions, courses offered, and extra curriculars. Some parents, like Rachel Bourgeois, voiced their concerns over the cuts being made to teaching positions.
