Trader Joe's plans 2 new New York stores. See where they're going

Two new Trader Joe's stores are planned for New York, expanding the popular grocery chain's presence in the state. The California-based retailer announced plans this summer to open new locations in the Syracuse area and Yonkers as part of its latest nationwide expansion. The plans add to the company's growth in New York, which includes a Long Island store that opened earlier this year. The expansion comes as Trader Joe's continues to draw shoppers with its private-label products and competitively priced groceries. Where are the new Trader Joe's stores? According to Trader Joe's, the two planned stores will be located at: Camillus: 3515 W. Genesee St., in the Syracuse area. Yonkers: 2482 Central Park Ave. The Camillus store, located just west of Syracuse in Onondaga County, will be about 9,000 square feet and become the area's second Trader Joe's. The existing Syracuse-area store is at 3422 Erie Blvd. E. in DeWitt. The Yonkers location will cover about 10,000 square feet. When will the new Trader Joe's stores open? Trader Joe's has not announced opening dates for either New York location. Spokeswoman Nakia Rohde said new stores typically open within three to six months of being announced. Major portion of iconic Crucible steel complex in Geddes to be demolished

Geddes, N.Y. — A major portion of the former Crucible steel mill in Geddes will be demolished to make way for the site’s eventual redevelopment. Ross Castner, who bought the 70-acre complex in 2025 following Crucible’s bankruptcy and closing, said demolition is scheduled to begin later this month on up to 40% of the sprawling site at Bridge Street and State Fair Boulevard.

Florida voters have approved sweeping property-tax breaks that could save homeowners thousands of dollars a year — but out-of-staters looking to cash in on the Sunshine State’s latest perk face a five-year catch. Amendment 3 passed during the Tuesday midterms with roughly 62% of the vote, clearing the 60% threshold required to change Florida’s Constitution and paving the way for a major expansion of the state’s homestead exemption. Beginning in 2027, Florida homeowners who qualify for the state’s homestead exemption will be able to shield the first $150,000 of their home’s assessed value from most local property taxes, up from $50,000 today. That tax-free portion will rise to $250,000 in 2028 and increase with inflation beginning in 2029. Florida voters approved sweeping property-tax relief for homeowners. W.T. Grant stores disappeared in 1976 after the once-enormous variety-store chain went bankrupt and liquidated its remaining locations. The company filed for protection from creditors in October 1975, but its attempt to continue operating failed. By the following spring, the familiar Grants signs were coming down across New York and the rest of the country. The collapse ended a business that had started with one Massachusetts store in 1906 and grown into a nationwide chain with more than a thousand locations.

The newly opened Canandaigua Bank in the DeWitt Wegmans Parking lot invited Jamesville Elementary School, Tecumseh Elementary School and Moses DeWitt Elementary School, along with the district office to take part in Cash for Class.
