ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University’s new Physician Assistant Program is now accepting applications. The program plans to matriculate its first 24 students in August of next year.

115 credits over the course of 28 months will be provided by the program. The design behind the program will prepare students enter into the professional field as a PA.

A Master of Physician Assistant Studies will be earned by students who complete the Physician Assistant Program. The program itself will focus on training students for meeting the healthcare needs of underserved populations and to display a commitment to community service.

Participating students will receive training for work in a variety of healthcare settings. An emphasis will be placed on rural primary care, leadership, and public health. The Physician Assistant Program will offer all courses on the main Concord campus.

Two elective tracks will be offered through the new program. These include Medical Missions and Population Health, as well as Substance Use Disorders. During students’ first semester of the program they may choose which track they wish to pursue through the program.

Dr. Jennifer Pack will serve as Director of Physician Assistant Studies at the university. Pack previously worked on PA programs at Mountain State University and University of Charleston.

“The start of Concord University’s PA program seemed so far away two years ago when the program officially started its development. Now, with only a little over a year until we matriculate our first cohort of students, our accreditation application submitted, the application cycle open, and the program foundation built, we are all very excited,” said Pack. This program is going to be very impactful to our community by helping meet healthcare needs, as well as to students by giving them a chance to pursue a PA degree at Concord, and to faculty and staff by allowing us to take part in the educational journey of students at such a well-respected institution. I am so thankful for the support of everyone at Concord and am eagerly awaiting the next phase of this journey!”

Concord has applied for Accreditation and expects to matriculate its first class next fall. More information about Concord University’s new Physician Assistant Program can be found at the Concord University website . Those interested may also contact Dr. Pack at jlpack@concord.edu.
