N.H. volleyball: Oyster River survives Hollis-Brookline, advances to DII championship
DERRY – The Oyster River High School volleyball team got all it could handle from upset-minded Hollis-Brookline in Wednesday night’s Division II semifinals, but the Bobcats held on for a hard-fought 3-1 win to set up a championship match against rival Somersworth. For the second straight year, second-seeded Oyster River (17-2) and top-seeded Somersworth (18-1) will face off in the Division II championship. This year, the teams will meet at noon on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Pinkerton Academy. Oyster River, the defending state champions, handed Somersworth its only loss of the season, 3-1, on Oct. 16. Maggie DeWire delivered in a pressure-packed moment in the deciding fourth set. Making her first serves of the season, DeWire helped bring the Bobcats back from a 23-19 deficit to a 24-23 lead. Oyster River went on to win the set, 26-24, to close out the match. “That is the first time Maggie has served in a game this season,” Oyster River head coach Cassie Doore said. “She rattled off (four) points, and she played some defense back there too, which we don’t normally ask of her. Maggie was huge. I can’t say enough about her.” “I was definitely very nervous, but what kept

Super 10 South Shore high school football rankings: Playoff time
The MIAA high school football playoffs are here. To get there, the last week of the regular season featured plenty of drama. Plymouth South survived a pair of North Quincy-recovered onside kicks to secure a playoff spot. Canton defeated Oliver Ames in a de facto playoff game for both sides in a thriller. Weymouth narrowly edged out Newton North for the final spot in the Division 1 playoffs. Scituate finished the season as the area's lone undefeated team (only 13 teams finished unblemished in the state). The Sailors were one of three local teams to earn the No. 1 seed in their bracket (Div. 4), along with Norwell (Div. 6) and Cohasset (Div. 7). Boston-area high school football team misses playoffs after clerical error
A clerical error for a Massachusetts high school football program has led to the team missing out on the postseason despite ending the year with a winning record. Boston English/New Mission (MA) scheduled a game with O'Bryant (MA) to close out the 2026 regular season. However, that game was not marked as an official game on Boston English's schedule , according to a report from the Boston Globe. The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association now uses a system, Arbiter Live, to track team schedules and all games must be added to the platform before the Sept. 18 deadline. A week prior, another member school alerted the MIAA about a discrepancy on Boston English's schedule. The game against O'Bryant was not added in by the Sept. 18 deadline, and while the Bulldogs won 12-6, it was counted as a scrimmage instead of an official game. The players and coaches went from winning the program's first Boston City League title since 2021 to finding out the next day that they would missing the postseason. As the contest was counted as a scrimmage, the Bulldogs fell to 4-2 on the year and fell one game short of the state's seven-game minimum for qualifying for
