Local Poughkeepsie Resident Arrested for Illegal Possession of a Firearm
Jakai M. Rivera, a 24-year-old man from Poughkeepsie, New York, was arrested on November 22, 2023. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree. The arrest was a collaborative effort between the New York State Police and the Poughkeepsie Police Department. Rivera was found with an illegally possessed, loaded Glock model 21C handgun during a warrant execution.

An empty storefront in Poughkeepsie will soon see new life as a whole new business. Pier 1 Imports filed for bankruptcy during the pandemic in 2020. Soon after, the location in the Spackenkill Plaza on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie closed down, leaving the building vacant. Aside from Spirit Halloween using the store for its seasonal pop-up, the building has sat empty for the past several years.

POUGHKEEPSIE – An alleged illegal cannabis retailer was shut down by city officials on Tuesday on Academy Street in Poughkeepsie. Officers from the city accompanied the inspectors during the visit to 13 Academy Street to inspect the premises from the outside. The store was closed down after the visit only to reopen a few hours later.

Susan Salanitri, owner of Rocco’s Pizzeria and Rocco’s Fine Dining in New Paltz, has been found guilty of tax fraud. Salanitri admitted to five counts of falsifying tax returns from 2015 to 2019.
