Napoleon baseball sees best season in program history end in regional final
BOWLING GREEN — A close play at the plate combined with some uncharacteristic errors cost the Napoleon baseball team on Friday as the Wildcats fell just short of punching their ticket to the Division II state final four. In the regional final at Carter Park, Napoleon trailed Parma Padua Franciscan 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Wildcats looked like they had tied the game on a bang-bang play at home. But the call did not go their way and Napoleon ultimately fell 4-2. The Wildcats, who made school history with a program-record 22 wins, banged out 11 hits with eight of nine batters contributing. Senior pitcher Jacob Shadle kept his team in it but the defense committed three costly errors. Parma Padua (19-9) also came up with several clutch, two-out hits to advance to the final four.

Napoleon baseball solid in all facets of 9-0 Division II regional semifinal win over Huron
BOWLING GREEN — The Napoleon baseball team used some early small ball, some timely hitting, and the right arm — and glove — of junior starting pitcher Trey Rubinstein to earn a 9-0 victory over Huron Thursday in a Division II regional semifinal game at Carter Park. In doing so, the Wildcats claimed a single-season program record 22nd win which sets up an appearance in the program's first-ever regional final Friday back at Carter Park against Parma Padua Franciscan, which beat Bellville Clear Fork 4-3 in the other semifinal. Rubinstein was brilliant, working quickly to get in a rhythm and mixing a firm fastball with a crisp curveball. He scattered two hits in his complete-game shutout with six walks and 11 strikeouts. But whether it was quick reflexes, instincts taking over, plain luck, or all of the above, no play was bigger than when he speared a line drive up the middle with his glove hand with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning and proceeded to double up a runner off second base to end the threat and preserve a 4-0 lead at the time.
