Gadsden City football ending 2026 season with hope for what's ahead
TRUSSVILLE — Sam Sollie and Dylan Perry did about all they could do in Gadsden City football's attempt to pull off a surprise win over Hewitt-Trussville to open the AHSAA playoffs on Friday, Nov. 6. The Titans raced out to an 11-point lead in the second quarter, as Sollie threw for two scores and the Titan defense was able to force back-to-back interceptions to set up the scoring drives. The Titans took a 4-point lead into the half as thoughts of an upset started to go through the visitor sideline. The second half saw a shootout ensue, with Sollie finding Perry on three touchdowns, from 59, 54 and 29 yards out but ultimately Jack Floyd was able to lift the Huskies to a 38-35 win with a three-touchdown night of his own. Sollie threw for 274 yards, 166 of those to Perry as the defense forced three turnovers. "We missed a lot of opportunities tonight," Gadsden City coach Ali Smith said. "I felt like we left a lot of points out there. We missed a lot of tackles, but its things we can build on. Pretty much everyone on the offense and defensive side will be back next year." The

It was the program's first victory against the Conquerors (3-7), advancing the Knights in the postseason. The Knights did not start with momentum. Coosa Christian struck first and, as Tuscaloosa Academy exchanged turnovers with the Conquerors in the first quarter, the pair traded blows from on-field mistakes. "Anything that you give them, they'll take advantage of," Wright said. "They're very aggressive on defense, and we've got to take advantage of that, too. They may get us sometimes, but sometimes we may get them."
