Alabama Power says it’s responding to outages as 30,000 remain without electricity
6 p.m. update: 30,000 people, mostly in Shelby, Bibb and Jefferson County remain without power Monday night, according to Poweroutage.us. In a statement on its website, Alabama Power said “Severe weather has impacted parts of our state. Alabama Power crews are assessing the damage and responding to outages. Due to the severe weather impact, your restoration time may change. Please stay weather aware and safe.”

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is making sure you and your family are safe this Memorial Day weekend. That’s why they will be setting up a safety checkpoint at the intersection of County Road 52 and County Road 93 near Helena from 10 p.m. Saturday, May 25, to 2 a.m. Sunday, May 26. The agencies taking part are the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Helena Police Department, and ALEA.

Cross-county police chase ends with arrests, felony charges Wednesday morning
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Two people are in custody after leading law enforcement from Pelham to Birmingham Wednesday morning. Officials with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the chase of a stolen Jeep Liberty began in Pelham and deputies joined the pursuit at Interstate 65 and Valleydale Road. At that point, Pelham police officers ended their pursuit as deputies were led into the City of Birmingham.
