As the 2024 spring transfer portal window closes, the defending National Champion Michigan Wolverines look to bolster their defense with an elite name from the Division II level.

The Wolverines extended a scholarship offer to Jay’viar Suggs, a 6-foot-3, 285 lb. defensive lineman who entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer from Grand Valley State. Suggs ranks No. 94 in defensive backs and No. 955 overall in On3's Transfer Portal Industry Rankings . He was unranked coming out of Clarkson (MI) according to 247Sports' profile .

“The Michigan native had 21 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble last season. He’s also received 37 offers so far since entering the portal. Florida State is expected to host him for a visit this weekend, which comes on the heels of a trip to Arkansas. Kentucky is also expecting to get an official visit,” according to Blue By 90 .

Suggs will have to fight for snaps within Michigan’s defensive line rotation with the Wolverines returning Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant and Rayshaun Benny. However, with the addition of Suggs to an already top-tier defensive line room, the Wolverines could once again have the best defensive front in college football.
