Minnesota enjoyed a 31-10 lead entering the 4th quarter, but then the wheels fell off with Northwestern dropping 21 unanswered points on the Big Ten rival of the Badgers and winning the game in over time.

Before Thursday, Sept. 14, there were only 12 players in Elk River girls tennis’ 50-year history that had won 100 matches. Thousands have played for the Elks over the last 50 years. On Thursday, sophomore Mya Nelson joined this exclusive club and became the 13th player in Elks history to win at least 100 matches after defeating Rogers senior Hannah Byhre 2-0. Nelson won the first set 6-0 and the second set 6-1. Mya is the daughter of former Elk River varsity player Deanna Nelson. ...

Two Big Ten squads will square off on Saturday night as the Northwestern Wildcats will host the Minnesota Golden Gophers at Ryan Field. Northwestern has been dealing with the fallout of former coach Pat Fitzgerald’s firing all fall, but will look to get back to .500 as the 2-1 Gophers come to town. Gophers soccer let their high defensive standards slip, allowing more than one goal for the first time this season in a 3-1 loss to Michigan State at home Thursday. However, they allowed their opponents to convert nearly every meaningful chance.

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team scored six goals in their exhibition matchup with the Durham West Junior Lightning on Saturday afternoon. Redshirt junior Abbey Murphy tallied a hat trick in just the second period, propelling the Maroon and Gold to a 6-0 victory. Recently-named captain Peyton Hemp also added two goals on the day, while senior Audrey Wethington found the back of the net in the second period for the Gophers' first goal.
