Evacuation orders in place as crews battle 70-acre vegetation fire in Sunol, CAL FIRE says
Crews are battling a 70-acre vegetation fire at Welch Creek and Calaveras Roads in Sunol on Friday, CAL FIRE said.Evacuation orders are in place at Sunol Regional Wilderness Preserve and Welch Creek Road, officials said.#CreekFire [update] Welch Creek Rd X Calaveras Rd in Sunol (Alameda County) is now 50 acres and 0% contained. Evacuations underway due to brush fire affecting homes in Concord, Bay Point
Contra Costa Fire has issued an evacuation order for residents in parts of Concord and Bay Point due to a brush fire Friday afternoon.The Point Fire was reported shortly before 3 p.m. off of Evora Road, which is near Willow Pass Road.Firefighters say the 200-acre fire is 20% contained.Firefighters said at 3:18 p.m. they were setting up for "structure protection" at 31 Kelsey Court in Bay Point.The area of greatest concern right now is around Nichols Road and Driftwood Drive.SKY7 was over the scene where flames could be seen burning dangerously close to homes. Chevron says Richmond ballot measure to tax refinery will cost Bay Area drivers
One of the Bay Area's largest refineries says it's against a tax measure on November's ballot, which could force it to pay more in taxes.Chevron is firing back at the City of Richmond, which greenlighted the measure. Oakland man dies from 'reckless overmedication' after escaping from nursing home, complaint alleges

Governor Gavin Newsom is urging Oakland city leaders to revise the city's police pursuit policy.He sent a letter to Mayor Sheng Thao, the City Council, and the police department.MORE: Gov. Crews battling 100-acre grass fire in Altamont Pass near Livermore; parts of I-580 closed
A fast-moving grass fire has shut down parts of I-580 in the Altamont Pass in near Livermore Thursday night, according to CAL FIRE.As of 11 p.m., 100 acres have burned so far near Flynn Road with 0% containment.The initial report from the CHP is a car caught fire in the westbound direction and the flames then spread to the grass.
