New scholarship number and roster limit could impact in-state recruiting
According to YahooSports' Ross Dellenger, the NCAA is set to increase the number of scholarships that a football team can provide up to 105.... but also setting that as the limit for the entire roster, a cut down from 120. It's a positive for recruiting and a negative at the same time and, from Conversations EerSports had in Morgantown this week, it could cut both ways for in-state recruiting.

INDIANAPOLIS -- After some lean years, the Ohio State defense once again achieved Silver Bullets status with its play in 2023. The Buckeyes, playing for second-year coordinator Jim Knowles, ended up second nationally in points allowed (11.2 per game) and third nationally in total defense (265.4 yards allowed per game). The scoring defense total was OSU's lowest in 27 years, dating to 1996 when the Buckeyes allowed just 10.9 points per game.
TE Ben Rothhaar flips commitment to Rutgers
Rutgers landed another commitment in the class of 2025 today when Ben Rothhaar of Norwalk (Ohio) announced his plans to join the Scarlet Knights. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder was previously committed to Kent State but has flipped to Rutgers. Rothhaar becomes the 30th commitment to the Rutgers 2025 class as he joined the program on a day when the staff was hosting an unofficial visitor barbecue for members of the class of 2026. The class of 2025 commits are expected to be on campus tomorrow.

Wisconsin offered Port Huron (Mich.) Northern tight end Lincoln Watkins on Friday during his visit to campus. "I spent a majority of my time with [assistant director of player personnel] Zach Zilm who was amazing," Watkins said. "He did a wonderful job showing us the ins and outs of the university and really expanded our knowledge of what they had to offer. Outside of that we spent a lot of time with [tight ends coach Nate Letton] getting to talk on a more personal level which is when I was offered."

LSU sophomore right-handed pitcher Chase Shores was No. 6 on the list; junior infielder Daniel Dickinson was No. 8; junior first baseman Jared Jones was No. 41; junior right-handed pitcher Anthony Eyanson was No. 45; junior right-handed pitcher Jacob Mayers was No. 68; senior infielder Luis Hernandez was No. 83; and sophomore left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson was No. 90.
