Bulloch Juneteenth commemoration is Friday at Willow Hill
The Bulloch chapter of the NAACP and the Willow Hill Heritage & Renaissance Center will co-host "Juneteenth: A Freedom Commemoration" on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Willow Hill in Portal. The event begins at 6pm at 4235 Willow Hill Road, Portal GA, 30450. Back in 2005, the Willow Hill School, which was founded by former slaves in 1874, was put on the auction block. Twelve descendants of the school’s founders purchased the school to establish a museum and community center to honor the work of their ancestors. The Willow Hill Heritage & Renaissance Center now stands to preserve a piece of American History, create an appreciation of African American History, and promote an understanding of the school’s historical, social, and educational impact on the community, state of Georgia, and the nation. This makes it a very special place for the hosting of this commemoration event. All are welcome to join for this Juneteenth commemoration, which will include entertainment, a Juneteenth exhibit, a Willow Hill tour, food and drinks, and more. The event is family friendly and free to attend. Sponsors include the Georgia Southern College of Education, Jenkins County Medical Center, and Landon's Lawncare.
