After getting a degree in criminal justice, Ritchie made a career switch and began substitute teaching. That's when she fell in love with the classroom.
Commissioners review 2024-2025 proposed budget with tax rollback
Bulloch County Commissioners met for a work session on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 prior to their regular meeting. Tom Couch, County Manager presented an overview of the proposed budget that included rolling back the general tax rate. With the proposed rollback, local property taxes will remain essentially the same as they were in 2023. That includes compensation for any inflation in property values. Bulloch County is realizing gains in the property digest from organic new growth in development, enabling a rollback of the millage rate. GBI Investigates Inmate Death at Bulloch County Jail in Statesboro Amid Community Concerns
Tragedy struck at Bulloch County Jail when inmate Robert Linwood Chavers, 68, from Statesboro, was found unresponsive in his cell early Thursday morning; his death is now the subject of a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) inquiry. Chavers, discovered by jail staff around 6:30 a.m., could not be revived despite efforts by the officials and was pronounced dead on site, as per details provided by the GBI release.

The Georgia Southern softball team ran its winning streak to seven and finished off its best season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference with a 6-3 win over App State Friday afternoon at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
