THP: 2 injured after head-on crash between 2 motorcycles on The Dragon in Blount County
BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said two people were injured after a crash on "The Dragon" in Blount County on April 29. The Dragon is a section of U.S. 129 that stretches through Blount County. The THP said James Reiner, 68, was driving west on a downhill curve to the right. It said the other motorcyclist was heading east on the same road, going uphill.
Greenback Softball showing no signs of slowing down

One Maryville man is in custody and another is hospitalized after a stabbing on Silver Creek Lane Sunday morning, April 28. Officers said Warren Tra’Shaun Moates, 20, Swarthmore Lane, told them he stabbed a 19-year-old during a fight involving multiple people. He has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond pending a 9 a.m. April 30 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court. ...

Carrie Matthews, the alleged girlfriend of Kenneth DeHart, has been indicted on two felony charges, according to court documents. The charges are based on Matthews being accused of warning DeHart that police were at her home after DeHart allegedly shot two Blount County Deputies.

Corey D. Baerns, 54, of Pryor Road, Maryville, is dead after a shooting Friday night, April 26. A suspect is in custody. The Blount County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon identified Baerns as the victim in Friday’s shooting and the identity of the suspect. Unemployment rate holds steady in Monroe County
The unemployment rate for Monroe County for the month of March showed no change from the previous month’s rate. According to the state of Tennessee, the unemployment rate for Monroe County for the month of March was 2.9%, which is the same rate the county had during the previous month’s rate in February. Graduation dates for local high schools announced
Monroe County Schools officials are currently preparing for their upcoming graduation ceremonies. Kicking off the list, the first high school to host its graduation ceremony will be Sweetwater High School on May 9 at 7 p.m. on the school’s football field.
