Corey D. Baerns, 54, of Pryor Road, Maryville, is dead after a shooting Friday night, April 26. A suspect is in custody.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon identified Baerns as the victim in Friday’s shooting and the identity of the suspect.

Deputies identified 31-year-old Jeffrey Dain Rimback of Glover Road, Rockford, as a suspect in their investigation. BCSO said Rimback was currently charged with making false reports to law enforcement and was being held on a $100,000 bond.

According to a release from BCSO, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Pryor Road at about 10:30 p.m. Friday. On arrival, they found Baerns suffering from a gunshot wound.

“Deputies attempted life-saving measures on Mr. Baerns, but were unsuccessful,” the release stated.

Baerns was pronounced dead after arriving at an unlisted hospital.

Deputies located Rimback, whom the release identifies as “the suspect” at the scene of the incident a short time later. BCSO said its investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
