The Tellico Village Property Owners Association recently held a short 45-minute Town Hall meeting on Thursday, April 25, in the Community Church at Tellico Village.

During the relatively brief meeting, CEO Chet Pillsbury provided more updates on the TVPOA’s trash contract and gave more information on demolition bids at the Tanasi clubhouse area — as well as addressing concerns from the community.

    WATER AUTHORITY?

At the start of the meeting, Pillsbury said that the April Town Hall meeting will serve as an opportunity to give updates and clear the air on some of the TVPOA’s projects. … Pillsbury started off putting the final say on the TVPOA’s hopes to become their own Water Authority.

“In our research the water authority and some of us have already talked about but we did some more research and what it comes down to is that, in truth, as the law currently stands, we are not legally allowed to become a water authority,” Pillsbury said.

“That being said, we were told that we could go back to Legislation and possibly have that law amended. And then once that’s amended, we could come back and request to be a Water Authority.

“We’re now three to four years out by that time, it has pretty much no value to us anyway. We’re not going to do the water authority at this point. There’s no way to effectively get it done in a timely fashion that would benefit the community.”

    MORE TRASH TALK

Moving on, Pillsbury talked about the newly agreed Tellico Village trash contract with Republic Services. The new contract now effectively has reduced members’ trash fee to $23 a month, a $2 decrease from a previous contract.

“I realize everybody’s going (to think that’s not much), but the $2 as it applies to the entire community it’s actually about ($100,000),” he said. “It was a significant reduction in terms of what the entire community is paying for trash.”

The CEO reiterated most of the updates discussed in the previous TVPOA board meeting … including the new and improved trash flow along with how they have set up a direct line of communication with Republic.

COMMUNITY CONCERNSThe second half of the abbreviated Town Hall meeting included TVPOA members coming up and presenting Pillsbury with a variety of issues including builders working past 7 p.m., additional Tanasi rebuild questions and the creation of potential round-abouts in the Village.

TVPOA member Mike Robbins raised concerns about builders not obeying the 7 p.m. work cut-off. He told how some people in the community simply didn’t know when the work cut off time is and gave potential solutions like flexible work hours, etc.

Pillsbury said that while he isn’t directly involved in the situation, he would have a talk with TVPOA’s Director of Public Works to find a solution. While he understands that some workers may have a special permit to work past the curfew, it should be an exception not the norm.

Another TVPOA member inquired about the status of a nine-hole executive reversible course and a potential driving range that was supposed to be added to the new Tanasi clubhouse.

“The project for executive golf … is not on the agenda as we speak,” Pillsbury said. “It was talked about but it’s definitely not on the agenda and the driving range has been brought up by a multitude of people.

“Lots of people want it, (but) right now we’re still working on our budget. At this point, I can’t answer that question other than a lot of people want it and it’s past the planning stages.

“We have drawings, (and) we have the ability to get bids if we choose to do that. It’s just whether we can afford it or not.”

One of the final things brought up was about the progress or lack thereof of potential roundabouts and updated community signs.

Pillsbury indicated that the Road Committee will be tasked to “stay on top of” the Tennessee Department of Transportation and their progress regarding upcoming changes.

“In terms of the signs, as you have already noticed we’re in the process of changing the individual signs for the different communities, upgrading them, giving them a different look,” Pillsbury said.

“And I know it’s a personal opinion, but I think they look really good. And we’ve had to make some changes to them and some adjustments to how they look and what you see.

“I think it’s a much better and more updated look.

“They’re actually pretty solid and will stay in place,” he added. “That’s an ongoing project and we are going to work our way through the community.

“We’re not done by any stretch of the imagination and some of it takes time and organization — and our biggest thing is we really want to get the community involved in helping to maintain these.”

The next TVPOA board meeting is set for May 15 on the top floor of the Yacht Club at Tellico Village, while the next Town Hall meeting will be held May 23 at the usual Community Church at Tellico Village location.
