'Deputy McCowan, we have it from here' || Blount County Sheriff's Office retires slain officer's badge number
MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The badge number belonging to a Blount County Sheriff's Office deputy who died in the line of duty has been retired. Greg McCowan died in a shooting while he responded to a traffic stop on Sevierville Road in February 2024, and his badge was retired during a memorial honoring fallen police officers in Maryville on Wednesday.
Small fire burns at Broadway Towers; no injuries reported
A small fire broke out near the top of the Broadway Towers building in downtown Maryville Thursday afternoon, May 16. No one had been injured by the time the fire was extinguished, officials with the Maryville Fire Department said. Julie Sharpe, executive director of the Maryville Housing Authority, which runs Broadway Towers, said Thursday that the fire did not damage the building itself.
