Suheir Tabanja came to Knoxville from the West Bank with a dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. She fulfilled that dream over the spring and said she was eager to walk into a polling location for the first time as a citizen, the Blount County Public Library.
Blount County deputies investigating deadly shooting
SEYMOUR, Tenn. — Blount County deputies took a person into custody after a deadly shooting in Seymour on Thursday. One person died in the shooting on Maple Road. The Blount County Sheriff's Office said deputies took a person of interest into custody. That person is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility, and charges are pending.

Man sentenced to 12 years in prison after deadly drag racing crash in January 2023
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide by drag-racing in April, as well as other crimes, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison on Friday. Tra'Shawn Glass entered a blind plea in late April, meaning there was no recommended punishment term between him and Knox County prosecutors. He was also charged with drag racing and with assaults.
