Yakima Humane Society now open Sundays, pet food donations needed

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Humane Society is in need of help to refill its pet food pantry.

Animal shelters around the region are feeling the pinch when it comes to space, and that means with every animal they take in, they need the means to care for the animals.

Kelli Peal with the Yakima Humane Society is in need of donations of pet food. Its pet pantry is available to people in the community who need help feeding their pets. The agency operates strictly off of donations and the shelter has noticed a recent drop in those donations.

"We have been doing it for a number of years and we are really excited to continue to support the community," Peal said. "Many are struggling to provide for themselves so it can be hard to get food for their animals. Our pet pantry is completely public donations. Any donations we get from the public, go right back to the community."

Peal also added the humane society is now open on Sundays, which means the shelter is open seven days a week. It's the perfect opportunity to go down and look at helping a pup or kitty find their forever home.
