Harlan Boy’s Track Looks to Break Even More Records After Historical Performance Last Week
(Harlan, IA) – The Harlan boys track team defied expectations last Thursday as multiple events went in their favor. Harlan’s boys competed to the top of their levels and just about every athlete was able to earn their personal best on the evening. Head Coach Sam Brummer says that “they preach competition” and wants his boys’ competitive edge to push into the blue oval.

Western Iowa man arrested for shooting that left woman dead
ONAWA, Iowa — A western Iowa man has been arrested for first-degree murder for a shooting on Friday evening. According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, a 911 call came into the Monona County Communication Center just before 6 p.m. Deputies arrived at the 1900 block of Granite Street in Onawa and found Stacey Allen, 47, dead.
Duluth’s Jesus is Life Ministries Brings Aid Across the Midwest Following Tornadoes
DULUTH, Minn. — A church in West Duluth continues its tradition of helping people at disaster sites across the country. This last week the Jesus is Life Ministries church from West Duluth decided to head to Minden, Iowa a small city in the southwestern part of that state. The decision to help this small town was largely made because tornadoes struck this small town of 590 residents twice in ten days. Nearly 50 homes were destroyed.

Harlan alum Sears named semifinalist for Dick Howser Trophy
(KMAland) -- Former Harlan standout and Nebraska senior pitcher Brett Sears has been named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy. The award is given annually to the top college baseball player in the country. Sears is among the national leaders in a number of categories and is now 8-0 on the mound following a win over Michigan State on Thursday.

The State Meet is Coming up Fast for the Quick Cyclones Track Team
(Harlan, IA) – Last week’s state-qualifying meet was a great success for the Harlan girl’s track and field team. The girls came into the meet with goals to make it to state of course, but also break their personal records and go out and compete to the top of their level. Head Coach Jenny Hamilton was more than proud of the effort that her girls displayed last Thursday and is looking forward to seeing what some of her girls will do at the state level.
Second MARC event set for KMAland tornado victims
(Council Bluffs) -- Assistance is still available for KMAland residents recently struck by disaster. Another Multi-Agency Resource Center, or MARC event takes place Tuesday from 4-to-7 p.m. at the Mount Crescent Ski Area, 17025 Snowhill Lane in Honey Creek. Officials say the MARC is a one-stop shop for disaster survivor information, referrals and service delivery. Tuesday's MARC is open to victims of the April 26th and May 6th tornado events in Pottawattamie, Shelby and Harrison counties. In a recent interview with KMA News, Pottawattamie County Public Relations Manager Carl Carlsen urged all individuals touched by the recent storms to visit the MARC.
Underwood boys track looking to compete in all 11 events at state
(Underwood) -- Underwood boys track and field will bring 11 events to the Iowa State Track & Field Championships in Des Moines later this week. “There’s a couple other things that we kind of had an outside shot (of getting in),” Eagles head coach Tyler Ridder told KMA Sports, “but I think getting 11 events was a really good night for us. Really pleased with how everything went. We ran well, we threw well, we jumped well. Very happy with how everything went.”
