AmFirst purchases land for new Alabaster branch

ALABASTER — AmFirst has acquired 7.59 acres of land in Alabaster for the creation of a new branch off Highway 119. The new AmFirst Branch is planned for Shelby County off of Highway 119, north of the intersection of Thompson Road. The Alabaster location will mark AmFirst’s fourth branch to open in Shelby County, following existing branches in Inverness, Calera and Pelham.

CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - Speeding through an I-65 work zone in Chilton County could soon cost you $250, but the state has not said when tickets will start. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced some details on a traffic camera pilot program this week. It falls under Alabama’s new “Work Zone Safety Act.” The agencies said the pilot will test whether the cameras can reduce excessive speeding.

Alabama citizens vote in favor of four constitutional amendments

With the results of the statewide 2026 general election in, citizens voted to approve four amendments to the Constitution of Alabama. Statewide Amendment 1 provides for the election of a lieutenant governor if the office of lieutenant governor becomes vacant during the first two years of a term. Additionally, the amendment authorizes the legislature to set the salary of the lieutenant governor and officers of the Legislature and require any expenditures of the legislative funds for travel to be approved by a legislative officer.
