Williamsport, Pa. — Chick-fil-A is planning to open a location on Maynard Street in Williamsport near the site of the future Wawa store.

A land development plan was submitted recently by developers Famvest Partners for the fast-food restaurant to be located at the site of Maynard Commons, which is an area under development across from Penn College's main entrance, according to Megan Dapp, spokesperson for Famvest.

"The City of Williamsport is excited to see the continued development of the Maynard Street corridor. The addition of Chick-fil-A to Maynard Commons along with Wawa will provide additional amenities to residents and visitors to that area of the city," said Mayor Derek Slaughter.

The restaurant will be situated within walking distance to more than 4,000 Penn College students. The 2.67 acre parcel for Maynard Commons at the 100 block of Maynard Street also will be home to a new Wawa convenience store and gas station.

Construction for Wawa began in January and was temporarily paused when an environmental consultant found the cancer-causing chemical TCE or trichloroethylene. The chemical was found while the contractor was doing prep work on the grounds. DEP was notified and the company has since taken steps to remove and excavate soil. Construction is set to resume this month. Officials at Wawa said the store is expected to open by the end of the year.

    M. Jon Jahanshahi, president of Famvest Partners, shared, "It's our pleasure to submit our land development plan for a Chick-fil-A restaurant at Maynard Commons. We thank Mayor Slaughter for his support for our project and the members of city council who approved funds and land development plans for the overall development."

A spokesperson for Chick-fil-A said their restaurant openings create 80 to 120 jobs. No word yet as to a timeline for an opening date for the restaurant.
