Award-Winning Actors Spotted Filming Movie in Westfield Wednesday

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield’s police station and Mindowaskin Park were the location for filming of a movie Wednesday, May 8, that will include several Academy Award winners, according to town officials.

“Westfield welcomed a bit of Hollywood yesterday, as the Town of Westfield, NJ Police Department was transformed into the Lake Hill, NY Police Department for a film shoot — complete with patrol cars, police uniforms, a department seal and the New York State flag flying on site,” a post on the Town of Westfield’s Facebook page said Thursday.

“While the production crew has asked us not to disclose the name of the film before it's released, the Town was thrilled to be included in this major motion picture that features several Academy Award winners. The crew noted that, after scouting many locations in New Jersey, they chose Westfield for this scene not only for the front of our Police Department, but also for the beauty of Mindowaskin Park,” it said.

Part of Park Drive was closed to traffic for filming Wednesday.

Photos shared by the Town of Westfield, taken from a distance, show what might be actress Julianne Moore and a bearded John Tutorro. The two are starring in “The Room Next Door,” a film by Pedro Almodóvar, with Tilda Swinton, according to W magazine and the cinema publication The Film Stage.

Some may think it’s fitting that Westfield is standing in for a town in New York, as New York state was a stand-in for Westfield in the television series “ The Watcher. ”
