80-bed recovery center closes at Massillon health hub after 8 months
MASSILLON – A drug and alcohol recovery center operated by Ohio Valley Physicians Health has closed after about nine months inside a revamped health hub. The 80-bed addiction recovery facility opened in February at the Massillon Community Health & Innovation Center , 870 Amherst Road NE, which is the former site of Affinity Medical Center. It shut its doors on Oct. 16 due to apparent medical reimbursement shortfalls. Chris Zimmerman, chief executive officer of Massillon Community Health, said he's working on "a viable replacement" to occupy the former recovery center's space, adding that the process has been encouraging. A phone message left with a representative from OVP on Oct. 28 was not immediately returned. The recovery center was expected to bring in dozens of long-term jobs to Massillon, said Jackie Rebman, director of inpatient behavioral health for OVP, told The Independent in late February. Between $500,000 and $1 million of renovations had been made in preparation for the two-floor, rehab center in early 2026.
