DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s the sweetest season, and John Koontz is making it sweeter.

“We try to pick the biggest reddest berries we can,” he said.

He started growing strawberries just a few years ago on his family’s farm that’s been making sweet memories for generations now.

When he became the owner of the farm, he knew he wanted to keep the agricultural history alive.

“There’s three generations right there, and that’s lived here,” said Koontz pointing at some family photographs.

Today, he welcomes visitors to his farm that carries his grandfather’s name: O.L. Farms. You can pick your own or buy strawberries that were picked fresh that morning.

He doesn’t do it for the money. He works a full-time job but loves to share the joy and sweetness that comes from his roots.

“It’s great to be farming on the family’s farm,” he said. “And I’m glad to be doing it.”

You can find O.L Farms on the corner of Hoover Road and Arnold Road in Welcome.
