Downtown a buzz at First Friday event
May 3 brought the return of Jackson’s First Friday event, organized by Jackson’s Downtown Development Authority. Held on the Jackson town square from 6:30 to 9 p.m., the event featured food from food trucks and Jackson restaurants and participants gathered around the square, in the new Browns Park and on the lawn of the Butts County Historic Courthouse to enjoy the evening. The next First Friday event is set for June 7.
New law signed to promote school bus stop safety in Ga.
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Governor Kemp has signed Addy’s Law, a bill that is meant to improve school bus safety. House Bill 409 is named after 8-year-old Adalynn Pierce, who was killed after being struck by a vehicle while trying to get on a school bus. That happened in Henry County back in February.

CONYERS — Two teenagers visiting a Conyers apartment complex were arrested April 22 after they allegedly illegally entered at least five cars in the complex parking lot. An officer with the Conyers Police Department responded to the Village at Almand Creek apartments at about 2:45 a.m. after a resident called to report that two men were seen looking into vehicles near building 14. The officer located the suspects, who were wearing dark clothes, masks and sunglasses, in the parking lot. When approached by the officer the two suspects fled on foot.
Making a splash in downtown Monroe
It sprinkled just a little with rain before, and after, the grand opening of the splash pad on the new Monroe Town Green Saturday, but the only drops from above on the heads of the excited children during the actual event were from the fountains in the splash pad. The rain held off and let the children enjoy getting wet anyway.
Covington to Purchase Property on Spring Street
COVINGTON — The city of Covington has entered an agreement with Charles Christian Tuller House Inc. for the purchase of a building at 3156 Spring St. The council approved the purchase at its April 15 meeting. The white frame building built in 1890, which sits on 1.7 acres, will be purchased for $100,000. According to tax records, the building, which has about 4,280 square feet, last sold in 2015 for $85,000.
