Fountain demolition to begin Monday
A downtown city water feature enjoyed by many will soon be demolished and replaced. On Wednesday, the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety approved a request from Tom Fansler of Smock Fansler Corp., Indianapolis, to close the Marie Canine Plaza while crews replace the fountain and make other renovations to the site at the corner of East Main and Green streets.

She was born Aug. 28, 1942, at Bloomington, to the late Stacey J. and Adria Eleanor Stewart. She married Jimmy L. Miller on March 23, 2000, in the One Way Pentecostal Church in Crawfordsville. Benton Central High School Student Killed, Another Critically Injured in Car Accident
A student from Benton Central Sr. High School, Jaden Harvey, died in a fatal accident in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. The crash happened at U.S. 52 and County Road 400 West, near West Lafayette. It involved two cars, a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2005 Pontiac G2. The accident also critically injured another student, Rylan Burge.
50th Festival Of The Turning Leaves Kicks Off Friday Through Sunday
The 50th Festival of the Turning Leaves kicks off in Thorntown on Friday, Sept. 22 and continues through Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24. For the 50th celebration of the Festival of the Turning Leaves, the organizers elected to pay tribute to the festival’s roots and focus on bringing the Thorntown community and community members from surrounding areas together for a day of festivities and celebrations. The festival was founded by the Society for the Preservation of Our Indian Heritage, and the Thorntown merchants partnered with the society to kick off the festivities for the community of Thorntown. When the group disbanded in the mid-1990’s, the community came together to continue the work of the society.

Chargers look to clinch county title vs Athenians
A week after competing against one county rival, Crawfordsville football will now compete against it’s other rival when CHS welcomes North Montgomery for Homecoming on Friday. The Athenians (0-5, 0-3 SAC) are coming off a 48-18 loss to Southmont while the Chargers (3-2, 2-1 SAC) come into the game riding high after a 20-14 win against Western Boone a week ago. The rivalry has been historically dominated by the Chargers who won last year’s contest 44-7 and currently own an 13-game winning streak against the Athenians with Cville s last win coming back in 2011. North has also defeated CHS twice in the sectional.
Parke Heritage Competes at Skillathon
Parke Heritage High School and Parke Heritage Middle School FFA members participated in the Area 5 Livestock Skillathon at Clay County Fairgrounds on Sept. 13. They were tested on livestock breeds, feedstuffs, equipment, meat cuts, general industry knowledge, and took a quality assurance quiz. The PHHS FFA Gold Team was the sixth overall senior team. Treyton Burgess was the 13th high individual. Other team members were Stormi Swaim, Hayden Holcomb and Kailey Seay. For the PHMS chapter, the Gold Team was fifth overall junior team and the FFA Blue Team was 14th overall junior team. Whitney Swaim was ninth high individual and Kamden Shields was 13th high individual for the junior division. Man convicted of murder in 2021 deadly shooting on Indy's southeast side
INDIANAPOLIS — Following a two-day jury trial, a Crawfordsville man was convicted of murder in the 2021 deadly shooting of another man on Indianapolis' southeast side, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday. Kyle Roberts was also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
