Menasha tornado relief supply hub moving from library to new location
A popular Menasha hub for tornado relief will shift locations with the start of a new month. Since Sept. 8, Carrie Lane has operated a hub out of the Elisha D. Smith Public Library at 440 First St., offering essentials like paper goods, hygiene products, diapers cleaning products and food to those in need. On Oct. 1, the location will move to the Hope Fridge – a volunteer-run community mutual aid service – at 332 Broad St. in Menasha. There, local organizations People of Progression and Multicultural Coalition, Inc. will take over supply distribution efforts, though Lane said she will continue to "help as much as she can" in between other responsibilities. The new indoor space deemed "Hope Fridge Hallway" will open at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 with expanded services and resources, advisory group member and volunteer Savi Gehrke said. The outdoor fridge will continue to operate at all hours of the day, every day of the year. Gehrke said tornado recovery supplies at the library hub were constantly snatched up faster then volunteers could keep items on the shelves. She anticipates a similar situation at the hub's new location. "The need in the area was already strong," she said.
