Peshtigo Elementary student honored for shipwreck discovery
PESHTIGO, Wis. (WBAY) - The Wisconsin Historical Society honored a student at Peshtigo Elementary on Monday for finding a century-old shipwreck with her father. While out fishing on Lake Michigan with her father last year, Henley Wollak spotted the sunken vessel after a sonar device for fishing picked up on the wreck. The ship, confirmed as the George l. Newman, was built in 1855.
Maroon tracksters put on strong showing in Escanaba
ESCANABA — Nine first-place finishes highlighted a strong showing by the Menominee track team in Escanaba on Tuesday. CRIVITZ — The Crivitz baseball team shrugged off a sluggish start to overcome Wausaukee 15-5 in Marinette and Oconto Conference play on Tuesday. Marinette, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Marinette Campus is proud to announce a ribbon-cutting to celebrate renovations at the Herbert L. Williams Theatre and the Fine Arts Gallery. Renovations were made possible by $600,000 in support from Marinette County and donors for the “Take a Seat” campaign, who will be able to see their engraved seat plaques for the first time. The event is scheduled for May 5, 2024, at the Herbert L. Williams Theatre, 750 W. Bay Shore Street, Marinette, WI.
Resurfacing will continue on US 41
GREEN BAY — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region weekly construction update includes resurfacing of U.S. 41 in Marinette County. The work will take place from Flame Road in the Town of Peshtigo to West Cleveland Avenue in the City of Marinette. That’s a length of 2.7 miles.
